He was born on December 17, 1942, in Ann Arbor and graduated from Ann Arbor High School.
He continued the long-time legacy of Westermans in Ann Arbor, making his mark with his house-moving business and providing rental homes to residents and students alike. John moved many homes in the area in the 1980s, most notably the Geddes Town Hall School (now on the EMU campus) and a 185-year-old house that became the Museum on Main Street.
Blessed with the gift of gab, John was charismatic and quick to make friends anywhere he went. An avid traveler, John enjoyed getting to know people all over the world.
A person with many passions and an insatiable drive to try new things, John was always industrious and a "can-do" man. He was self-driven and a formidable entrepreneur. He loved playing poker with his numerous friends and working on his rental properties, both of which he did with enthusiasm up until his passing.
To truly know John, one must love all parts of his unique wild spirit, charming personality, and ability and fortitude to live life on his own terms.
He always had a joke to tell and was generous in spirit.
John is survived by his adult children, John (Amber) Westerman, Elizabeth (Leslie) Westerman-Ott, and Katelyn (Harry) Mayers. He has four incredible grandchildren, Vaughn, Calder, West, and Valerie, who endured his jokes and consistent reminders that they needed haircuts. We love you, Dad.
A celebration of life for John will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Stone Chalet Bed and Breakfast Inn and Event Center, 1917 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
