Lynn Louise (Schultz) Hobbs, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026 at the age of 86. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and joy. She faced life’s challenges with grace and strength, overcoming several health challenges, all while maintaining her optimism and humor. Her ability to take everything in stride inspired everyone around her. A lifelong learner, she returned to school to complete her degree in Dental Hygiene, earning her BA after first receiving an associate’s degree from the University of Michigan. Her curiosity and eagerness to grow never waned. She was a proud Wolverine and a big UofM basketball fan. Her heart for service was evident in her volunteer work: serving as Secretary of the Southeast Michigan Jazz Association (SEMJA) board (reflecting her love of jazz), helping at the thrift shop, contributing to the Conger Group, the condo association board, and the Kelsey Museum. She gave freely of her time and talents to make her community better. Family was her greatest joy. She had a remarkable gift for making each child, grandchild and great-grandchild feel uniquely special. Her home was a warm and welcoming hub for friends and family; a place filled with laughter, love, and incredible meals. She was an amazing cook, known for her lemon chicken pasta with broccoli and the plentiful Dove bars in the freezer that her grandchildren adored. She created magical spaces for her grandkids, complete with a special room, craft projects, and a big toy bin for overnight stays. She loved travel and embraced adventures far and wide—from a college trip to Europe to journeys through Belize, China, Mexico, South Africa, the UK, and countless road trips across the U.S.
Her interests were as vibrant as her personality: an avid reader and book lover, a talented Scrabble player who amazed us with words we didn’t know existed, and a brilliant bridge player with a sharp mind for strategy. She was a long-standing member of the Ann Arbor
City Club and cherished her bridge group and book club friends, sharing deep friendships and memorable trips up north. She also enjoyed tennis, golf, yoga, and gardening. She had a deep love of music and theater often going to the Opera and many musical theater productions. Her sense of style and love for art shone through in her pottery, fashion, paintings, and unique treasures. She had a contagious laugh, a fun sense of humor, and an unwavering commitment to integrity; always doing what she said she would do. She was a steady force and a role model, teaching by example the importance of being as good as your word. Above all, she loved her family deeply; her parents, brother, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her enduring presence left no doubt about the strength of her love.
Lynn is survived by her brother and sister-in-law: William (Lisa) Schultz, as well as, her daughters Susan (Chuck Cornelison) Lilly, Karen (Keith) Mullins, Amy (Tony) Iannone, and Betsy (Jason) Wagner. She was a proud grandmother to Joe Lilly, Caroline Lilly, Ben Van Court, and Alli Van Court, Mary (Chase) Gingerich, Sophie Iannone, Nathan Wagner and Elise Wagner. She was a caring aunt to Matthew Hobbs, Andrew Hobbs and Ashley (Kathy Johnson) Hobbs, Eric Schultz, and Carrie (Schultz) Fulp. Lynn’s legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Carson Gingerich and Camille (Millie) Gingerich, who brought her immense joy.
She will be remembered for her resilience, generosity, laughter, and the countless ways she enriched the lives of those around her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the incredible staff at Atria Park of Ann Arbor, as well as her caregiver Irma Sooknanan, and physical therapist Costin; all who made Lynn’s last few years of life significantly better.
A future celebration of her life will be arranged by her daughters in Spring/Summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southeastern Michigan Jazz Association (SEMJA) at https://www.semja.org/scholarship/index.html
