Underwood, Mary Bodley 1/5/1948 - 12/14/2017 Ann Arbor, Michigan Mary passed away in her sleep at home, a victim of her lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes. Mary was born in Milan, MI, the second child of six to Dean Bodley and Rosemary (Taylor) Bodley. She graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in 1966 but her fondest memories were always from her childhood in Milan. She established and treasured many life long friendships, some dating back to her earliest days in Milan, as well as with friends in all the locations around the country where she lived throughout her life. She was a wise and witty confidant. Although life came with heartaches and challenges for Mary, she was a strong and loving woman who demonstrated nothing but kindness to all. Mary had a love for reading and writing and enjoyed nothing more than a spirited discussion about topics that she was passionate about. Her father Dean, her mother Rosemary, her beloved husband Richard, her oldest daughter Jennifer and her youngest brother Jeffrey preceded Mary in death. She is survived by her daughter, Christina Underwood Trudel (John) of Simpsonville S C, and the loves of her life granddaughter's, Abby and Olivia. Additionally surviving are her siblings, Thomas Bodley (Joy), Kathy (Paul) Lubbers, Carolyn (Jim) Thompson and John (Ingrid) Bodley, nieces and nephews, Mark Bodley, Michael Bodley, Michelle Lubbers, Bradley Lubbers, Douglas Thompson, Anne Thompson, Jay Bodley, Casey Bodley, Evan Bodley, Eric Bodley and Andrew Bodley, her aunt, uncles and many cousins and lifelong friends. Professionally Mary had many secretarial positions but the primary mission of her well-lived life was in giving comfort and support to her large family. Mary was the family communication coordinator, party planner, reservation maker, concierge and grief counselor all in one. Her role as mom, grandma, sister, sister-in law, aunt, cousin and friend was carried out to the end with wonderful spirit and optimism. She was one of a kind, the best of the best. A Celebration of life for Mary Bodley Underwood will take place on January 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Senior and Community Center 147 Neckel Court, Milan, MI 48160. The service will be immediately followed by a graveside service at Marble Park Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made in Mary's memory to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the care of the Muehlig Chapel. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. (Dylan Thomas)
