My condolences Pam and family.  I only met you once while you were visiting Clare...before children.  I lived next door to Mike and Bob for many years.  Playing in the mud, riding bikes and irritating their grandmother while she was gardening.  After all we were kids...some days good, some days not so much so!  We all went to the Catholic school together and then on to high school.  Mike was a grade ahead of me, Bob and I were the same age.  My oldest brother and sister were both Mike and Bob's godparents.  Many fond memories.  Once again prayers for your family.

Dear Hartzler's,  I struggled with the words to express how I feel.  Growing up in Alpena I feel lucky to have known Mr.Hartzler.  He was always committed to the well being of others and dedicated his life to the cause.  I remember the small rink he made in the back yard so Scott and Jim could practice for hockey.  I have very fond memories of Mr. Hartzler and your family growing up.  My deepest condolences.

I WORKED MANY YEARS IN ICU WITH DR. HARTZLER AND WAS SAD TO HEAR OF HIS PASSING. WE INSERTED MANY CHEST TUBES TOGETHER,HE WAS ALWAYS WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH. HE WILL ALSO HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART BECAUSE HE FROM TIME TO TIME ALONG WITH DR BRITTON TOOK SUCH GOOD CARE OF MY HUSBAND GEORGE. THE PRAYS ARE WITH YOU ALL

I knew Mike when we attended Medical School together. In the occasional class when the students were arranged in alphabetical order, we would be paired up oftentimes. Mike seemed bright, of course, but I was most impressed by his kind demeanor and understated good humor. I am very sad to hear of his sudden death and I pass on my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Pam, Jim, Preetha, Scott, and Allison.  We were all lucky to have our lives touched by Mike.  While I was significantly less involved than you, I couldn't have had a better experience. Mike was passionate about living life in a most engaged way.  We met on the basketball court , were both left handed, and played the game to have fun but win!  Mike had a great outside shot and was not afraid to take it.  I believe this is how he lived his life.  He knew he had a great one and lived it to the fullest.  Bless you all!

You have been in our prayers since Pam called with the sad news. We had such a lovely visit the last time we were in Ann Arbor. Mike was obviously enjoying his relaxed retirement, and we so enjoyed his new cooking skills -- lunch was delicious. While it was pre-grandchildren for us to the time, it was a delight to see Mike light up as he talked about Allison. We will talk with you again soon.

I was saddened to read of Mike's death.  So many memories of the Hartzler family!!  Both Scott and Jim were in my second grade class.  Pam helped out in so many areas at Sunset School. Mike was a part of Career Day when he adjusted his busy schedule to help out the students (explaining a doctor's role as a career).  My sympathy to all of you!  It appears the "boys" have grown up and lead productive lives.  Makes me proud!!

My sincerest condolences to you and your family on the loss of a great, wonderful, kind, compassionate Dr. Hartzler.  He was a truly great physician and everyone loved him here in Alpena at AGH!!!!!

Mike was an amazing, compassionate Doctor that I had the good fortune to work with for many years and then we became family when Jim married my niece. Our family gatherings will not be the same without him.  We will great!y miss him.  RIP.

My heartfelt condolences to you Pam and your family.  I have many fond memories of time spent in the operating room, especially when I was being oriented to be a scrub nurse in the early 1980's.  Dr. Hartzler was always so patient and kind to me. His memory will live on now through all the people he touched in so many ways.

Mike we will miss your writing on the holiday cards, we always loved your writing. We wil miss you but we will have you in our hearts.  You were the best loving and caring Doctor, father, husband and sweet grandfather to his his Allison.  You made breakfast and lunch every day for your daughter in law when she was going to work, so much care and love for her and everyone.   We love you with all our hearts, until we meet again.

In the last month, Mike arranged a 89th birthday party for Great Grandma Fransted and a luncheon for his wife's birthday at Knight's and surprised her first Apple phone, which takes great pictures of Allison!   His retirement life, which was cut too short, consisted of family, library and Church.  Until we meet again, Mike, Love and Blessings
