

Nancy Jean McLean Buskirk died at home on January 28, 2013, following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease and lung cancer. Nancy Jean was born to James Edward McLean and Jean Wright McLean in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Avonworth High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. While she was attending Mount Holyoke College, her family moved to Adrian, Michigan where she met her future husband. After Nancy Jean graduated from college, she began teaching junior high math at Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She married George Buskirk on August, 22, 1959. After completing dental school and serving in the army, George started a dental practice in Holland, Michigan where Nancy Jean and George spent the rest of their married lives. Nancy Jean helped George with bookkeeping and paperwork at his practice throughout his career. George died in 1989.
Nancy Jean was a very active volunteer in the Holland community. She spent much of her time assisting with the AAUW book sale and helping with the volunteer tax program at Evergreen Commons Senior Center. She became chairman of the tax program and was named Evergreen Commons Volunteer of the Year in 1995. In 2005 Nancy Jean moved to Ann Arbor to be closer to her sister and brother-in-law.
Nancy Jean will be fondly remembered by her sister,Louise McLean Peelle, brother-in-law, David Peelle, sister-in-law, Sandra Buskirk Renner, and brother-in-law, Roger Renner. Other friends and family members will also miss her. These include: four nieces, Jean Getter (Andrew), Elena Teaford (Dennis), Suzanne Jennings (Seth) and Jessica Renner, five great nieces and nephews, Hope, Dennis and Faith Teaford, Drew and Ellen Getter, and many dear friends.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nancy Jean's life is planned for sometime in the spring in Holland, Michigan. Nancy Jean suggested that any donations go to the Evergreen Commons Senior Center in Holland, Michigan.
