

Patricia Vangelatos (nee’ Verames), age 86, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2018 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Angelo, her parents, and sisters Mary (1990), Koula (2003), and Ann (2015). She is survived by her younger sister, Diane Geczi. She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan graduating from Ann Arbor High School along with her lifelong friend Cynthia Kokkales in 1949. She met Angelo Vangelatos in 1953 and were married in February 1954. They had three children, Anna Nicholls (Larry), Stephen Vangelatos (Jennifer), and Vickie Brooks (Larry), all of of whom survive. In addition, Pat is survived by eight grandchildren, Megan DeGrand(Greg), Lauren Toth(Grant), Kate Nicholls, Nicholas Vangelatos, Alex Brooks, Jenna Brooks, Tony Vangelatos, and Sam Brooks. She has five great grandchildren, Asher and Bennett DeGrand, Ellery Toth, Gavin DeGrand, and Emma Toth.
Pat and Angelo bought the current Angelo’s restaurant in November of 1956, they used Pat’s mother’s bread recipe for homemade toast and a local legend was born. Pat, along with her life’s partner Angelo, operated the restaurant until their retirement in 1986. After Angelo’s death, “Momma Angelo” was often found at the restaurant cheerfully greeting and talking with old friends and customers.
Pat enjoyed traveling with her sisters, relaxing at the family condo in Florida and several trips back to Greece to visit relatives still living there. Pat was the matriarch of the family doing her best to impart the Greek culture and faith to younger generations. Her family were founding members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Ann Arbor and Pat was a member of the Philoptochos Society.
Her greatest joy was seeing and spending time with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Generations of U of M students, customers, friends and family will miss her infectious smile and loving personality. May her memory be eternal.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2017 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (3109 Scio Church Rd., Ann Arbor) Visitation will be Wednesday, February 28 at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel (403 S. Fourth Ave., Ann Arbor) from 4 until 7 p.m. The Trisagion Service will be at 5:30 p.m.
