

Robert, known as “Fallen” grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Tappan and Community High schools. He then served in the United States Air force as a jet engine mechanic. On September 27th 1985 he married the love of his life Karen Kovach-Smith, and she survives him.
Karen and Fallen lived an idyllic life on 10 acres in Chelsea Michigan; their door was always open to friends, and dogs in need of rescue, especially Rottweiler’s. Over the years they have had horses, burros, pigs, extensive gardens, and hosted many many bon-fires!
When they weren’t on the little farm, the Smith’s enjoyed trips to the U.P., Commander Cody concerts, visiting friends, and attending vintage car shows.
Fallen was especially fond of the Detroit Tigers, U of M athletics (and history of), NASCAR, the Detroit Grandprix, fishing, and pinball. He loved to BBQ, listen to NPR, and was an engaging conversationalist on any topic. Fallen was an accomplished mechanic who worked many years in the field including tenures at local dodge dealerships and cab companies.
He is survived by: his wife Karen, step mother Jane Hutchinson, brother David (Teresa) Smith, sister Stacy (John) Shields, stepson Jamie (Gina) Neylon, nieces Macayla, Tanesha,Bianca, and Jennifer, nephews Austin and Alex, step grandson Phoenix, beloved dogs Zeke and Sasha-Luna, and many special friends.
Loved ones that have preceded him in death include: his mother Mitchell Campbell-Smith, father DR. Thomas Charles Smith, Grandparents Pierre and Ethyl Smith, Aunt Jane Smith, Uncle John(Jack) Smith, close friends Todd Clark and Larry Watco, and family pets: Varti, little bit, Bear, Flower, Dragonfly, and Violet.
