While my stepbrother, given that Steve and I were born on the same day, both at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor (he was bigger, but I was older), he was, quite literally, my twin brother from another mother.  We ran track against each other, he for Clinton H.S. and me for Manchester H.S., bitter rivals, before we ever knew each other.  Afterward, our rivalry was his beloved University of Michigan versus my alma mater, Michigan State.

Like his dad, my step-father, Don, before him, Steve had a heart of gold and, even as an adult, a certain innocence and vulnerability that made you want to be his friend.

Our relationship was extremely special and I'll miss knowing that  he isn't around anymore.  He touched many, many lives, in a special way, as demonstrated by all of the posted memories here.

May he rest in peace.

 I'm sure gonna miss his goofy self, and all of our inside jokes, and joking around with each other, all the many fun things we used to do together like especially what became our tradition going to concerts, also sports games, fishing, etc.. I have so many great memories with him that I'll forever cherish. He loved me so much & always let me know as well as showed it.. was truly an honor to have such a cool Uncle like him! It's so hard trying to process this, and imagine going on in life without him, I can't believe he's really gone! I want my Uncle back! I already miss him so much! 😭💔
U Steve, if you can see this right now, I love and miss you so very much! I will make sure to tell Nevaeh all about you, I'm so bummed out that y'all haven't had the chance yet to meet in person.. please watch over us till we get to see each other again.. also please give April & Butch Butch lovins for me, I know y'all are happy to be reunited again.. also please tell everyone else that I love and miss them so much too.. thank you so much for being such a cool uncle! This really sucks having to go on with life without you! Rest peacefully & enjoy yourself in Heaven. As you would always say "your one & only favorite niece"

I still cant believe you are gone... We were just talking about you retiring in Florida so we could spend more time together. I have so many memories of us growing up together. I will take care of and stay in contact with your mother (My Aunt) as much as you did. She always talked about you checking in with her on a daily basis as you were driving to work. I will miss you so much as will Connie. Rest in Peace. Cousin Bill.

Steve Hinz, how I miss you. I don’t know how many times I said get away or I don’t want to hear any of your stories. I would love to hear your voice right now. RIH my mentor, my teacher, but most of all my FRIEND.

It has been a real pleasure to have work with Steve.  We had so much fun and he always had your back. When I retired from Motor City he gave me the biggest hug and told me to take care and enjoy myself. My ❤ goes out to his family and God bless you.

So...still just trying to wrap my head around this one.  Found out Sunday that my good friend Steve passed away this weekend.  Although we didn't get to hang out as much as we would have liked,  when we did get to sneak in a lunch at our spot, Black Rock Steakhouse, it always was a good time with great conversation.   As a dealer, I always loved having Steve as my Floor Supervisor, because I knew he had my back and never sweated the small stuff.  As a fellow Floor Supervisor, I also loved working next to him, again knowing that he was always willing to help.  I definitely know that I am going to miss being able to go sit and chat with Steve in the ADR at work, chat about normal workday issues etc. while in the pit, and of course our occasional lunch outings.  Whether you agreed with some of the things he would passionately talk about/debate, there is no question that Steve always knew his stuff.  When all of this stuff settles down and we get back to work and everyday life, we will be without a great buddy, good friend and straight up helluva guy.  R.I.P Steve. Condolences and prayers to all of Steve's friends and family.

Steve was one of my floor supervisors at Motorcity Casino. He was a class act and one of a kind. I remember my last conversation with him, we were in pit 20 on the craps table...as he sat box Steve watched me deal for a couple of minutes and simply said "its so refreshing to watch an experienced dealer as yourself deal so precise and so clean. Reminds me of my days back in Vegas. Not many dealers take this craft seriously anymore. You're one of the last of a dying breed, D". I smiled and said "aww Steve thank you but my hands are not what they used to be, its time for me to pass the buck to someone else". He said "kid, on your worst day I'll sit box for you and still wouldn't have a care in the world...its like poetry in motion watching you deal". And this is the Steve I will remember...he inspired his dealers to be the best that they can be. Never belittled us and always took a stand for what was right. Steve was truly one of the best in my book. I will always remember the wonderful laughs we shared while talking about reality shows, music, and just overall good times, and especially hearing him reminisce about his old Vegas stories (he seemed to have one for every hour of the day). Never saw him having a horrible day...if he did, he hid it well. Rest well my friend. 

May God shield his family and loved ones and overshadow them with peace as they mourn their loss. I will always remember you Steve, I will miss you my buddy. Until we meet again...

My first day dealing on my own at MCC,  i was A nervous wreck and I was so nervous being in Pit 18 from  all the rumors I heard. As I’m getting cursed out by the player on House Money, Steve walks over and says “Francis, Fran whatever you like being called, you’re doing great, you’re a great dealer.” Literally made my day and all my fear left. I’m so saddened by this and know that you’re energy can never be replaced. This is heartbreaking to us all, to have encountered such a great spirit and it leaving us unexpectedly. I pray for better days. 

Steve was one of the WOW BOYS from MCC. He was very funny and loud. He had always a lot of memories or tales from his life to tell you. And, he always wanted to inspire his co-workers by his words. I remember, on my last day I worked with him, someone spilled on my table. So, I was checking the cards one by one to see these were wet or not. He came behind me and as like always said "You are a great dealer and you are doing very good. I am proud of you"

MCC and PIT 18 will always be incomplete without you. In the heaven, stay cool like always Mr. Steve... ... ...

A man among men in the industry! Always upbeat and full of energy! One of the go to guys! Gone way to soon! R.I.P.



I lost the count...how many stories you told me about the "back in the day at the Horse Shoe".....You were one of a kind. You'll be truly missed by all of us. Thank you for all the good memories. RIP

Worked with Steve for 19 years. A lot of fun to work with, break with, and a very knowledgeable supervisor. Fortunately I shared his political views, otherwise I might not feel the same way about him! Always got to hear Vegas tales from him too. Really liked the guy. So sad his life was taken way too soon.

Steve became a good friend. To whom i met at Motor City Casino in 1999. He was a true Michigan man and knew his sport very well. Gonna miss you Big Guy. Rest up my friend.

To the amazing guy that learned my last name & told everybody, EVERYDAY that I was of royalty because of who I’m related to, lol. To schooling me on all the music down to its history. To chatting with me about sports that I’ll never understand, yet appreciated. Definitely one of the top floors at MCC. With a personality so large this hard to believe. You’ll truly be missed!

Steve was super cool, always had me laughing and talking sports from any era.. never seen him out of character no matter what was going on, Steve was ALWAYS Steve.. god has an even better Pit for you to oversee my guy RIP

Steve was the best floor at motor city hands down... I remember one day i was on a blackjack table and it was a really busy table with a lot of rift raf there. They were chirping and trying to make me feel uncomfortable and to be honest they were starting to get to me but I kept a smile on my face and let it brush by. Meanwhile Steve was right behind me to make sure I was ok (cuz that's the kind of guy he was). Then when I went on brake he stopped me and said "hey I want u to know that u earned my respect today. Ik how hard working on a table like that is and u handled ur self very well. You will go far in this industry with that attitude." After that my day was easy.. he was someone that I wanted to emulate because wether u were a dealer or a costumer you knew Steve and as soon as u knew he was ur floor that night u knew it was gonna be a good night..
RIP Steve u were the man and motor city will never be the same with out u. My condolences to the family and his friends.

Steve was such a great guy, he always had a kind word, a joke, or some great advice for me. He will truly be missed he wasn’t only a supervisor he was a friend. I will truly miss your smile and and your personality. Steve you were one of a kind and you made so many of us smile and laugh. We were blessed to have known a great person like you. 

A great guy I’ve known since 1999.  Always ready to talk and always in a great mood.  He also helped me meet my wife.  I’ll never forget you Steve.  Your personality is one of a kind and I appreciate you for being you.  Love you man!

I have work with Steve for a long time and he was that guy that always pushed me to do better at the Crap Table when he sat Box even remember the time i was going to walk away from a High limit table and he gave me the confidence to persevere, Steve you will be missed RIP

Steve was such a nice guy. I can remember him coming to the grille in our Associate's Dining Room (MCC) cracking jokes to whomever was grilling at the time. He was an incredible guy and full of life. He will truly be missed 😇

I remember Steve and I we were always in pit 9 (Crap pit) worked  together and he helping how’s  to pay out prop bets. Steve was a great man to work with. R.I.P my friend.

steve was my floor supervisor  at MCC. He was loud, funny, chatty and everyone  loved to be around him. 

My heart is broken. I worked with Steve, he was one of my Floor Supervisors. He was  such a kind man, so friendly and talkative, which I loved. He truly cared about each and everyone of us. He found out my son was in the Army, from that day forward he was either asking about my son or thanking me for his service. I’m going to miss him so much! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. RIP Steve 😢💔

He was such a loving kind informative funny man. He always pushed me to think more. To broaden my horizons. He will truly be missed.
