Age 91, passed away peacefully in his home on July 10, 2012. He was born July 6, 1921 in Cincinnati , Ohio to the late Bertha (Gantvoort) Stockton and Eric Stockton. He received a B.S. degree from Purdue University and a M.S. degree from the University of Michigan , both in mechanical engineering. He served briefly in the U.S Army. His career was spent mostly with the Ford Motor Company, working on automatic transmission and gas turbine design where he received dozens of patents. He may be most remembered for his passion and lifelong interest in antique and model heat engines, his membership in the Early Engine Club, and teaching his steam course for the North American Model Engineering Society. And, his evening ritual playing the piano will remain a consistent memory for his family.
He married Barbara ( Johnston ) Stockton in 1952 and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2004. His older brother, Eric also preceded him in death. Survivors include his five children; Thomas (Emily Twanmo) Stockton of Ann Arbor, Charles (Ramona) Stockton of Grass Lake, Nancy Burghardt of Ann Arbor , Jennifer (Hamid Torab) Stockton of Erie, PA, and Cynthia (Ken) Ward of Ypsilanti, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Mocha.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 14, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and followed by a reception at 1:00 p.m. at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor .
