Vernie Ada Rebecca McKeel

Vernie Ada Rebecca McKeel, age 90, of Ypsilanti, Michigan passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Vernie was born June 24, 1930, in Belton, Texas to Mary Verda Emmerline Moon and William Marvin Hampton, the youngest of their four children.
The Hamptons moved from Texas to Tennessee, and finally to Michigan when Vernie was young. She and her siblings attended Ross Jr High, and Vernie finished in 1950. She became a cosmetologist, and remained a beloved fixture to her customers until her retirement. In 1952 she married William Leslie "Les" Lane and they enjoyed 24 years of marriage until Les's death in 1986. Although they had no children of their own, Vernie and Les played a big role in the lives of their nieces and nephews.
In 1988, she found love again with Albert McKeel. He preceded her in death in 1997. Through Albert, she became step-mother to Al, Jr, who passed away in 2016. Through Junior, she became grandmother to Roy, Bryan and Monica.
Vernie is survived by nieces Patricia Hampton Smith, Carol Corrao, and Susan Wylie, nephew Ernest Lee Hampton, grandsons Bryan Larkin (Andi), Roy Gannon (Sabrina), and granddaughter Monica McKeel.
Vernie was preceded in death by her husband William L. Lane; husband Albert McKeel Sr; step-son Albert McKeel Jr. and daughter-in-law Bernice Hutchinson; her parents and siblings Homer & Franklin Hampton and Lillie Ruth Parsons, as well as nephews Wade Hampton, Victor and Tom Wylie, and sisters-in-law Inez Dodd and Wanda Wylie.
A small graveside service will take place in Washtenong Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 20, 2021 with interment taking place immediately after.
