Virginia Evelyn Townsend

Virginia E. Townsend, age 94, passed away November 22, 2015 at Glacier Hills Retirement Community, Eva’s House. Ginnie, as she was known to family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Ann Arbor. She was born on October 11, 1921 to Arthur and Thelma Greene. She was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and attended Michigan State University. In her early years she worked at the family business, Greene’s Cleaners. On June 15, 1946 she married John James Townsend (J.J.). He preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. Ginnie was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor. She was a member of Ann Arbor Women’s City Club and Barton Hills Country Club. She volunteered many hours over the years to the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed socializing with her friends, many dating back to high school. Ginnie is survived by her son, John A. Townsend (Linda) of North Muskegon, MI and her daughter, Joan K. Townsend (Gene Jestice) of Waynesville, Ohio, grandchildren John M. Townsend (Laura Ozios) of Casper, WY and Kelly Townsend-Hullinger (Lance) of Tampa, FL. As per her wishes, there will be no services. Cremation will be handled by Meulig Funeral Chapel and her remains will be placed next to J.J.’s at Forest Hills Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Eva’s House at Glacier Hills.
