

Wilma Marie Johnson, 85, of Ann Arbor died peacefully at home on November 23rd, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. An adored mother, grandmother and friend, Wilma is survived by her daughters Sharon (Paul) and Marilyn (Jim); her beloved grandchildren Anne, Alison, Robert, and Benjamin; her brother Leon; stepdaughter June (Robert); and many extended family members. Preceding Wilma in death were her husband Fred, sister Irene and stepson Ronald.
Wilma was born on May 17, 1926 in Ann Arbor, MI, to Gilbert and Tema Trinkle. She was born in Freedom Township, MI, and grew up on the family farm, attending Bethel Church. After graduating from Ann Arbor High School, Wilma lived in Ann Arbor, where she met her husband Fred, marrying him on August 11, 1951. Wilma was a devoted mother and homemaker, and also worked many years as a professional secretary at University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, where she enjoyed fellowship with the United Methodist Women, bible study and book clubs, and other church groups. Over the last 50 years, Wilma dedicated much of her time to serving the church in a variety of volunteer capacities, printing the weekly bulletin, teaching Sunday School, serving on the Worship and Memorial Garden Committees, and providing comfort to those in need through Uncommon Threads and Stephen Ministries. Wilma also enjoyed quilting, stamping and traveling with friends and family. She especially cherished her multiple trips to the Holy Land, and her annual summer vacations with her children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 2:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 120 State St., Ann Arbor, MI.
