Bobbie grew up in Summit, NJ, and graduated from Kent Place School where she excelled in dance, choral singing and was captain of the cheerleading team. She then attended Wells College for two years.
After working not only in the NYC area but also a short time in a ski resort in Vermont, she realized her love of sailing and all things nautical and moved to Annapolis where she met and in 1975, married Fred Hecklinger, a legendary figure within the Annapolis sailing community.
Bobbie had a very successful career as a realtor. She also spent much of her time making a difference in the community by volunteering for various philanthropic organizations. She did a great deal of work as a member of PEO, the International Philanthropic Educational Organization whose purpose is to award scholarships for the advancement of women. She also contributed her artistic talents to Caring Collection, Inc., founded by Bobbie Burnett in 1982. The organization crafted over 50,000 angels and raised over 1.2 million dollars for support to cancer patients. During the Christmas season, she made wreaths for the Maryland State Treasury Building. Her wreath-making talents extended into her longtime membership in the Bay Ridge Garden Club as she, along with her other contributions, made wreaths for the entrance to Bay Ridge for the club.
Bobbie was an avid gardener, decorator and anyone who has been a guest in her home knows of her culinary talents. Her artistic talents included painting and the enjoyment of several art courses, one of which included various art trips within the Eastern portion of the U.S.
Both Bobbie and Fred were very active in the Eastport Yacht Club where Fred held member card No. 2 as one of the 11 founders. They made many contributions to the development of the club. Bobbie loved sailing and the life it offered, making new friends, learning nautical past history and being a part of its present development.
Her husband, Fred, passed away on Sept. 25th, 2020. Bobbie is survived by her sister, Susan Reid, of Eliot, Maine.
Her smile, laugh and her inquisitive nature to learn more of life will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
