

Charles E. Schmidt (Chuck) passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife Regina and their sons. Chuck and his beloved wife, Regina, of 70 years were longtime residents of Annapolis, MD. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to Louis & Barbara Schmidt, Chuck was the eldest of 2 boys, William (Bill) Schmidt his brother. He graduated from Annapolis High School and graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed as a draftsman when operations began for Kennecott Copper Refinery in Anne Arundel County in November 1959. He held various positions with Kennecott Copper Refinery leading to head of the Engineering Department. Upon retirement from the copper industry, Chuck became the Business Manager for St. Mary’s Church in Annapolis, Maryland. During his tenure with St. Mary’s, he was responsible to supervising the construction of St John Neumann Church on Bestgate Road.
Chuck was involved in sports his entire life. As a child, he played baseball, basketball and lacrosse for what is now the Severna Park Green Hornets organization and lacrosse at Annapolis Senior High School. As the family grew, he would spend many seasons on the sidelines coaching his sons and others in football and lacrosse. In addition to coaching, he was an avid Orioles, Ravens and local college lacrosse team’s fan.
As they reached their retirement years, Chuck and Regina would spend much of their summers at the beach in Ocean City. They enjoyed their time with new friends and especially enjoyed the visits from their grandchildren. Ever the athlete Chuck could be found going down the waterslide with them kids.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Regina, and his sons Charles Jr., Michael (Mary Beth), Brian (Stacie), and Joe plus four granddaughters, Leigh Anne, Kayleen, Hannah (Kyle) Williams, Chelsea (Caleb) Caton and one grandson, Louis and four great grandsons, Levi, Mason, Kayden, and Baker.
He touched many and will be missed.
A memorial mass will be held at St John Neumann Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD, on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 10:30AM. A private family burial will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Mary’s Athletic Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
