

Donald Charles Sheldon, 77, a three-year resident of Little River, SC, formerly a 32-year resident of Annapolis, MD, died peacefully in his home May 30, 2015 after complications from a fall. He was born November 26, 1937 in Aurora, IL to the late Robert and Selma Sheldon. He started his career in food service working in a restaurant while a teenager living on a farm in Minnesota. He graduated from Renville High School where he was involved in sports and music. He studied Business at Augsberg College in Minneapolis, MN. He married Helen Shields in 1959. They had two daughters, Laura Dawn Sheldon, who passed away in 2014, and Danielle Christine Sheldon, who resides in Annapolis, MD. Don was a member of the Army National Guard in Minnesota, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Richfield, MN. A well-known and respected man in the food, vending , and hospitality industry, his career was celebrated with many fine organizations such as Szabo in Chicago, IL. Upon moving to Maryland, Don worked for the Macke Company; he took pride in renaming the company Service America before moving on to Aramark. His career led him to be a business owner of Eastern Food Service in Baltimore, MD, then VSI in Rockville, MD. He was co-owner of Fresh Maid Foods in Landover, MD, until his retirement, yet stayed on as a consultant. A friend to all, Don loved his family, his boat, renovating houses, and travel. In addition to his daughter Danielle Sheldon (Justin Nimmo), he is survived by his sister Catherine Anderson, brothers Robert and Al Sheldon, his grandson Lauson Charles Sheldon, and his devoted companion of 15 years, Barbara Cooper, as well as many family and friends. In addition to his parents and daughter, Don is preceded in death by his sister Jean Alwert. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 6-8 p.m. at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401 where services will be held on Friday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
