
Edward A. Chipkevich, Jr., 68, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania died May 13, 2015 in Annapolis, Maryland. He was born in Hazleton, the oldest son of Lt. Col. Edward and Mamie (Ragan) Chipkevich, USAF. “Chip” lived in Charleston SC, Ardmore OK, Smyrna TN, RAF Wethersfield UK, and Hazleton PA, and visited his sisters in Annapolis significantly over the years. He enjoyed scouting as a youth, achieving the Order of the Arrow as an Eagle Scout. He earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice at Kings College in Wilkes Barre PA and completed graduate courses at the University of Scranton. Over the years, he was an employee of the Hazleton Brick Plant, Spaulding Bakery, Intrepid Detectives, U.S. Parks Service - Shenandoah National Park, and U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a former volunteer in the Sugarloaf Volunteer Fire Department. Chip was an outspoken member of Anthracite Region Center for Independent Living (ARCIL) and he was a former Treasurer on the ARCIL Board of Directors. He was an active participant in Disability Action Crews. He worked with team members to establish Centers for Independent Living through the PA Statewide Independent Living Council. He leaves behind sisters Donna (Larry) Wilson and Mary Beth Chipkevich of Annapolis MD, Susan (Dan) George of Drums PA, and a brother Bob (Cara) Chipkevich of Brentwood TN. Chip was also a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews, and a Godfather. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis MD, immediately followed by interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Annapolis.
