Edwin “Ed” C. Wimbish, 63, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. He was a 1974 graduate of Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, and attended Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. He was a volunteer at the Takoma Park Fire Department.
Ed enlisted in the US Army in November 1975 and became a Sergeant. Although he was in the Army for about 3 years, the job and the friendships he made greatly impacted his life. He was stationed at Field Station Berlin, Germany on Teuflesberg (Devil's Mountain). His unit lived in the shadow of the Wall, aware that if the Cold War turned hot, they would be in the middle of it. He and his Army buddies formed an amazingly tight bond and continue to be a close-knit family to this day.
Ed was President of MobilityASAP located in Upper Marlboro. In February, he became the General Manager when his company joined National Seating and Mobility of Nashville TN. Previously, he worked for Digital Equipment Corporation in Greenbelt, and Radware headquartered in Mahwah NJ.
Ed truly loved everything about the Chesapeake Bay area. Eating steamed blue crabs on the back porch with family and friends was his most favorite pastime. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking, hiking, listening to southern rock music, NASCAR, the great outdoors, a glass of good red wine, chilling in his chair with his best kitty Tiger Lily, and planning the next adventure with his wife Kathy.
Ed is survived by his wife Kathy, mother Deanna of Annapolis, daughter Amanda of Washington DC, and son Cody of Annapolis.
The family suggests a donation, in his memory, to your local SPCA, Paws on the Mountain Greyhound Adoption (CFC #58278), The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
On Sunday September 15, 2019 there will be a memorial gathering at the Eastport Yacht Club from 2 to 5 PM, military honors followed by sharing of memories will start at 3 PM for those that wish to participate.
