Elizabeth Shanahan Stader

Elizabeth Shanahan Stader, ”Beth” age 91, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022. Beth was born September 3, 1931 Jamestown, New York. She is survived by her husband Captain John Francis Stader (USN Retired), and her five sons, Captain James Francis Stader (USN Retired), John William Stader, Esq., Captain Paul Anthony Stader (USN Retired), Thomas Neville Stader, Colonel Matthew Nicholas Stader (USA Retired). She is also survived by four daughters-in-law, Clara Zmuda Stader, Michelle Slane Stader, Jennie DeGaglia Stader, and Tresa Grimes Stader. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Stader Thring, Mark Patrick Stader, Captain John Francis Stader, Dillon Patrick Stader, Benjamin Thomas Stader, Madeline Elizabeth Stader, Ryan Matthew Stader, and one great-grandchild Archer Stapleton Thring.

Beth was a schoolteacher and housewife. Her education consisted of a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wells College, and a master’s in fine arts from Catholic University. She was a devoted wife for 65 years to the love of her life John. She was a devout Roman Catholic who raised five sons who were all Eagle Scouts and served in our nation’s military. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved volunteering at the Naval Academy Garden Club, at the Department of Natural Resources, and for over 37 years as a Docent at the Museum of Natural History for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. She also loved the outdoors, gardening, knitting, weaving baskets, traveling, and having a glass of wine while watching the boats go up and down the harbor with her family at the Fleet Reserve Club of Annapolis.

A visitation for Beth will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. A Catholic Burial Mass will occur Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 9:00 AM in Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment Maryland Veteran Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
