Hilary Kozel , 90 yrs of age, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2021. She was surrounded by her Annapolitan Assisted Living family and friends , whom has cared for her these past ten years at the facility.
Hilary was born June 22, 1931 in the countryside of Hertfordshire, England. Her parents had a long established business of game birds, such as pheasants. It was the farm that Hilary truly became connected with all sorts of animals, but her true love was riding and caring for her horses.
In her Twenties Hilary had a great interest to move to America, and she did so taking the ocean course across the Atlantic. She told me numerous times how that trip was just
“ horrid “ due to the seas. A very brave independent move, being a farm girl from the country side . Her first job in America was being a nanny for a few families in New York and Connecticut. She later acquired her US Citizenship , which was something she was extremely proud of .
Hilary later met her husband, Frank Kozel, on a Airforce Base, fell in love and married. They had two daughters, Lisa and Sue , and a son Michael.
Hilary had the determination to care for and provide the best that she could for her family, no matter the challenges she was presented with. Her greatest accomplishment was advocacy of her second child Michael, whom was born with severe disabilities.
The challenges of caring for a disabled son, while being a caretaker for her husband, and bringing up two daughters was overwhelming, but she persevered the best that she could. She gave her disable son the best life her could ever have and was a strong voice for those with disabilities.
When Hilary was at her best and in peace she was gardening in the yard, traveling to different Caribbean Isalnds, or taking her doggies for a walkies. She also had a great talent and love for drawing and painting.
Hilary, a widow, is survived by her two daughters Lisa and Sue, and her granddaughters
Christine and Meghan. And her devoted chihuahua Isabel that protected her through thick and thin. Also her true friend, caretaker, and advocate Anthony, who works at Annapolitan, found Hilary’s smile and ignited her spirit on her down days.
A celebration of Hilary’s life will be a private gathering with her Annapolitan family and friends. The amazing compassionate caretakers that saw Hilary at her best, and at her most challenging times . If you would like to honor legacy please consider making a donation to the nonprofit organization We Care and Friends and Staton Center. Hilary had supported Larry Griffin and all the contributions he has done for the communities in Annapolis and it’s people. Peace ☮️
