An extraordinary woman of compassion, intellect, and community spirit, Lynn E. Whitall passed away peacefully at the age of 82. Born on November 19, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, she lived a life defined by service, and deep devotion to family and community.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Indiana University, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was an initiate of the Delta Delta Delta sorority—an organization that would remain a meaningful part of her life for decades. Following graduation, she began her professional career as a social worker in Minneapolis, Minnesota, guided by a lifelong commitment to helping others and strengthening communities.
In 1975, she and her family made Crownsville, Maryland their home, where she became a cornerstone of civic, cultural, and faith life for nearly fifty years. Always deeply engaged in her community, she served as President of the Arden Community Association and later as President of the Maynadier Homeowners Association, leading with integrity, dedication, and strong leadership.
Her leadership extended beyond neighborhood service. She founded the Annapolis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta, creating a lasting network of sisterhood and service. A woman of wide-ranging intellectual interests, she also founded the Naval Treaty Sherlock Holmes Society for the Annapolis area, bringing together fellow enthusiasts in spirited fellowship and thoughtful discussion.
A devoted gardener, she was an active member of the Annapolis Horticulture Society and served as its president for several years. Her love of gardening reflected her belief in nurturing growth—whether in plants, people, or communities.
Faith was central to her life. She was a devoted and active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Parish in Crownsville since 1987, where she served faithfully and formed deep, enduring friendships.
She shared more than 50 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Jimmy. Together, they embraced life fully—traveling the world, enjoying time on the water boating, and, most of all, cherishing moments with their family. Their partnership was marked by love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy; her two daughters, Laura (John) Easter, Heidi (Billy) Franklin; her two step-sons, Bill (Anna) Whitall and Jay Whitall, and ten cherished grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy.
Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through service, leadership, friendship, and love. She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, sharp intellect, deep faith, and the strength with which she lived her life.
