Rosa Maria Cuevas

Rosa Maria Santiago Cuevas, “ Rosita” age 94 of Annapolis, MD died peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at St. Martin’s, Little Sisters of the Poor in Catonsville surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1920 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico to the late Rosa Santiago and Ramona Medina Santiago, Rosa was educated in Puerto Rico and left as a young woman to join her family in New York City. While in NY she worked as management in the food service industry which included Wall Street. Rosa was very patriotic, so much so she married her husband, Macario Benito Cuevas y Rivas on July 4th, 1945 at Church of Our Lady of Esperanza in NYC. Macario preceded her in death in 1999. Rosa was a resident of White Plains, NY until moving to Annapolis in 1996. She was a long time parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in White Plains and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis. Rosa enjoyed cooking, particularly Mexican cuisine celebrating her husband’s heritage. As a devout Catholic she enjoyed her time at church and praying the rosary daily. She was passionate about writing letters and sending cards to family and friends, enjoyed daily walks and eating seafood. She was very social and well liked and known as the “happy-go-lucky girl” The youngest of 6 children, Rosa was preceded in death by her siblings, Manolin, Luis, Carmen, Mary and Lydia-Ester. Rosa is survived by her children; Rose Leticia Acosta, Annapolis, MD; Cynthia Margarita Murillo, Tijuana-San Diego area; Ray Cuevas, The Woodlands, TX; and Lydia Phillips, Davidsonville, MD. 11 grandchildren; Andrea, Bruno, David, Adrian, Lara, Ariadna, Christopher, Katharina, Jorge, Jr., Daniel, John and 16 Great Grandchildren. A memorial mass will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd. Annapolis, MD on Thursday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Private.
