

Shirley was born in Annapolis, Maryland on July 8, 1931, the daughter of J. Lloyd Hopkins and Blanche Wayson Hopkins. She attended Germantown Elementary school and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1948.
She is predeceased by her brothers John (Jack) Hopkins, Robert (Bobby) Hopkins, James (Jim) Hopkins, Richard (Dick) Hopkins and her sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hopkins Moore.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles Noel Dupont Smith, her three daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) Lou Silas, Rebecca (Becky) Smith Kennedy, and Jennifer (Jenni) Lee Swatling , their seven grandchildren, Kevin Alexander Silas, Daniel (Danny) Philip Silas, Spencer Ross Kennedy, Connor Hopkins Swatling, Scott Wade Swatling, Rue Noel Kennedy and Clark Chapman Swatling, and three great-grandchildren, Alexander (Alex) Wolf Silas-Reida, Edward (Teddy) Fox Silas-Reida, and Kay Raven Silas-Reida.
Shirley was a military wife for 21 years and dedicated her life to taking care of her family. In her later years she enjoyed adventures with her husband Noel - cruising, skiing, boating, and bowling. She spent her last 18 years with him at Asbury Community in Solomons where she continued enjoying life by the water.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 11 am to 11:45 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 50 Alexander Lane, Solomons, MD 20688. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment private.
