Tyann Jean Kavanagh passed away on September 15, 2023, in Annapolis, Maryland. Tyann was born on August 22, 1948, in Yakima, Washington. Tyann was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard E. Kavanagh III, and her brother Gary C. Murray. She is survived by her sisters Michelle Beaudoin and Taffey Murray, her brother Lonnie Murray, and Richard’s children Richard Kavanagh IV, Kathryn Kavanagh-Mallick, and their families including six beloved step grandchildren, Christoper, Liam, Josephine, Eleanor, Isabelle, and Rose.
Ty’s fondest memories were gatherings with family and friends, and sailing on Chesapeake Bay with her late husband, Richard—better known as Kav. For many years she orchestrated spectacular New Year’s Eve parties which she decorated splendidly and cajoled the men into donning tuxedoes and cooking for their wives. Christmas showcased her keen ability to set a beautiful table and to prepare a fabulous meal for family and friends. If gift wrapping was an academic field of study, she surely would have been a tenured professor. Elaborate ribbons, bows and paper rendered a “from” card unnecessary—the wrapping gave it away. While advancing years eroded the energy to stage a dinner party, she never lost the desire to entertain and routinely gathered with long-time friends at McGarvey’s for Sunday brunch and never missed a chance to host lunch for visiting family.
Ty loved dogs—especially Westland Terriers—and cats. On several occasions over her life she gave a loving home to a new furry family member who needed one. Memorial donations are invited to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.
She was a member of Saint Andrews by the Bay Catholic Church for many years. Ty’s working life included time with United Airlines as a flight attendant, as well as work as a legal secretary in Crystal City, Virginia and held administrative positions with Anne Arundel County where she worked for since 1984.
Ty’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Saint Andrews by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Pkwy, Annapolis, MD. A celebration of life will follow at 12:30 -3:00 pm at McGarvey’s, 8 Market Square, Annapolis, MD.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared on this website for the Kavanagh family.
