William L. “Bill” Stackhouse, Jr., born in Philadelphia, PA in 1930, lived much of his adult life in Bowie, MD, where he moved with his wife Ruth and two children, Valerie and Billy, in 1963. On April 19th, he passed away peacefully following a short respiratory illness. Bill was 91 and passed with his children at his side in Colorado Springs, CO, where he has lived for the past 5 years near his son. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and everyone was welcome at his and Ruth’s home. He was active in the Bowie Kiwanis Club for several decades, even serving as chapter President. He loved to golf and loved music (esp. jazz), playing piano his whole life and taking up the trombone in retirement, playing trombone in the “Goldenaires” swing band and several other bands. A graduate of Hyattsville High School and the University of Maryland, Bill worked in the private sector for over two decades before going to work for the federal government as a systems analyst. Bill was predeceased by his wife Ruth, his sister Beatrice Anderson, and his sister Elizabeth, who died in infancy. He is survived by his children, William (Megan) and Valerie (Tim), grandchildren Grace, Hannah, Madeline, Emma Mae, and Robert, step-grandchildren Amy and Anne-Marie, and great-grandson Braxton, as well as nieces Barbara, Carolyn, and Debbie. He is also survived by Janet Anderson, who was his beloved partner later in life. In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to St. George's Church, Glenn Dale Parish, P.O. Box 188, Glenn Dale, MD 20769. Family will receive friends at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where a Funeral Service will be held the same day at 1 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
