Doris was born November 17, 1927, at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, where she lived until age 12. She was proud to be in an Army family, and she and her younger sister and brother enjoyed life on the cavalry post. The family was later stationed in Augusta and Atlanta, where she graduated from Commercial High, and in Ogden, Utah, where she attended business school.
Back in her mother's hometown of Anniston, Alabama, she met and married William Howard Posey in 1948. Their son Bill was born in 1950. Mr. Posey died in 1955.
Mrs. Posey worked in the life insurance industry as an office manager, supporting herself and her son. They moved to the Atlanta area in 1957, where she has stayed.
Mrs. Posey particularly enjoyed reading all her life. She owned hundreds of books and also made regular trips to the library. She also enjoyed walking, bird-watching, embroidery, crossword puzzles, and attending plays and concerts, especially if her grandchildren were performing.
She is survived by her son, William Howard Posey, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Susan Moore Posey of Norcross, GA; three grandchildren: Emily Posey Lalor and her husband Zachary Lalor of Nashville, TN, David G. Posey of Norcross, GA, and John H. Posey of Evansville, IN; a sister and brother-in-law Joetta and Bob McComas of Huntsville, AL, and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy McGinty of Oak Ridge, TN, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment will be at noon on Friday, October 28, at Forest Lawn Gardens in Anniston. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 on Saturday, October 29, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 5100 South Old Peachtree Rd., Norcross.
