Guy Hubert "Bert" Allred, 87, of Belmont, formerly of Alabama, passed away February 1, 2025, at TerraBella Cramer Mountain. He was born April 25, 1937, in Talladega County, Alabama, the son of the late Bernard Allred and Lucille Hogue Allred.
Bert was a godly man, unashamed of his faith and committed to family. He proudly served for 20 years in the United States Navy, including a tour with the Blue Angels, and retired as a Senior Chief Aviation Electrician. He then obtained his master’s degree and spent the next 20 years equipping generations of electricians as an instructor at Ayers State Technical College. He was fondly known as "Uncle Bert", guiding young men towards integrity and success in their careers and personal lives. Bert was an accomplished piano player, and shared his love of music with others, passing his gift down to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An excellent golfer and experienced outdoorsman, Bert also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He will be missed by many.
Bert is survived by his son, David Allred and wife, Sherry, of Carrollton, GA; daughter, Kelli Smith and husband, Mike, of Belmont, NC; sisters, Connie Allred Brewer and husband Doug, of Cropwell, AL, and Phyllis Frameli of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Kaitlin Smith Mattox and husband, Ryan, Bekah Allred Smothers and husband, Cody, of Pensacola, FL, and Benjamin Smith and wife, Madison of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Caleb, Coleman, and Carden Mattox of Pensacola, FL; fiancé, Joyce Reaves of Oxford, AL; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Marie O'Dell Allred; and sisters, Bernice Ellis and Audrey Bryant.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Eastaboga Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2:45 pm. with Pastor Tony Thrower officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery.
