

Funeral service for James Bryant Dobbs, 90 of Anniston will be 2:00, Friday, April 7, 2017 at Halls Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Ellis Ford and Jeanette Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday at Gray Brown-Service. Mr. Dobbs passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017.
Mr. Dobbs was born on August 4, 1926 in Cedartown, GA and moved to Anniston at an early age. He lived at The Robert L. Howard Veterans Home in Pell City the last 3 years.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and saw action in WWII as a member of the Amphibious Forces. After the war he returned to Anniston where he met his future wife, Rachel Ford, got married and started a family.
James and his wife Rachel were married in 1948 and had enjoyed 66 years of marriage at the time of her death in 2014.
He retired from Anniston Army Depot, where he was a painter, in 1987 after 30 years of service. He later worked at Noble Signs in Anniston.
He was a beekeeper and at one time had over 50 hives of bees. He enjoyed working in his garden, woodworking in his work shop and loved spending time with his family.
He was a longtime member of Halls Chapel Congregational Holiness Church in Weaver where he taught Sunday school and at one time he sang and played the guitar in the choir.
Survivors include his son, Connie Mack Dobbs (Linda); daughter, Kelli Jo Hunter (Adam); grandchildren, Jonna (Jackie) Cheatwood, Alicia (Rob) Cofield, Kris Guthrie, Kade Hunter; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Cardwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Ford Dobbs; parents, L.Z. and Annie Bryant Dobbs; sister, Nancy Collins; brothers, Robert Dobbs, Forrest Dobbs, Donald Dobbs and William Dobbs.
Pallbearers will be Adam Hunter, Rob Cofield, David Burdette, Tim Ford, Kris Guthrie and Dwight Kirby.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Robert L. Howard Veterans Home in Pell City for their care of our dad.
