

Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Ormond “J.O.” Kirk, Sr., 62, will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 2 pm at Gray Brown Service Mortuary with Reverend Chris Brown officiating. Burial will be at Anniston Memorial Gardens veterans section. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 at the funeral home.
Mr. Kirk passed away on Saturday, May 21st in Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph and Katie Brown of Anniston, Alabama, Ormond “Bud” Kirk of Oxford, Alabama, Christine Taccone of Selma, Alabama, his father Ormond Louis Kirk of Moultrie, Georgia, his beloved mother Carolyn Kirk McGee of Anniston, Alabama, his half-sister Michelle Kirk of Moultrie, GA, and his former wife and the mother of his children, Bonnie Hoyle of Bastrop, Texas.
He is survived by his step mother Crystal Kirk of Moultrie, Georgia, two daughters Cookie Kirk Roach (Mark) of Tyler, Texas and Rebecca Kirk of Moultrie, Georgia, two sons Joseph Ormond Kirk, Jr. (Sarah) of Austin, Texas, John Kirk (Kristen) of Vernon, Texas, nine grandchildren, Kayle, Tre, Bubba, Kira, Levie, Riley, Justin, Hannah, Zak and one great grandchild, Bryson, one sister Teresa Hayes (Mark) of Wellington, Alabama, four brothers Curtis Kirk (Angie) of Jacksonville, Alabama, Kenny Kirk (Keitha) of Weaver, Alabama, Brian Kirk (Jamie) of Anniston, Alabama, and Patrick Kirk (Lisa) of Anniston, Alabama and many, many cousins of whom he cherished.
Mr. Kirk was a veteran, having served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne in Bamberg, Germany. He was an avid coin collector and was a talented artist and writer. He truly never met a stranger. He had a multitude of friends from all walks of life. He loved telling jokes, laughing, and having everyone around him laughing along with him. He was a great storyteller and a lover of poetry. He spent many years going back and forth between the family he had in Alabama and the family he had raised in Texas. In his most recent years he was drawn back to Texas to be near the ones who made him the most proud, his children and grandchildren. He will be missed.
