A memorial service was held on 21 February 2026 for Kil Sun Imboden at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Born in post-war South Korea, Kil Sun departed this world at the age 71 following a long and difficult decline with frontotemporal dementia. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Kil Sun is survived by her husband Dave, her daughter Pam, son in-law Rob, and grandsons Jesse and Cash.
Kil Sun had a strong work ethic and resilient character built from growing up in harsh poverty in a country rebuilding from decades of imperial occupation and a devastating war. She immigrated to America in the mid-80’s. She lived and worked around Alabama and Georgia, raising Pam and enjoying life with family and friends. She and Dave married late in life, and they spent nearly 17 years devoted to one another.
Kil Sun will be remembered for her warm, caring heart and her delightful laugh. She was immensely proud of her daughter and grandsons. A loving ahnae, umma, and halmoni (wife, mother, and grandmother), she will be missed by all. Many in this area will remember her as a favorite server from two decades at a local restaurant.
A special Thank You goes out to Kelly, Angie, Geraldine, Lu, and all the wonderful people at Alabama Hospice Care for their compassion and dedication – You made this most difficult time so much easier.
