Major Tom Cannon

Funeral service for Mr. Major Tom Cannon, 78, of Savannah, GA, will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 22, 2010, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service. Mr. Cannon died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah GA.

Mr. Cannon was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. (Major) Cannon of Anniston, AL.

He is survived by his sister, Elvia Irene (Hinton) Stewart of Birmingham, AL and brother, Cecil Clarence Cannon of Marietta, GA.

Mr. Cannon was an English teacher and Guidance Counselor in the public schools of Georgia and a Learning Disabilities Specialist and an Administrator in the South Carolina Public Schools. His service to public school children extended from 1964 through 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a medical corpsman from 1953 to 1957 when he received his Honorable Discharge. Mr. Cannon graduated from Anniston High School in 1951 and was a member of the National Honor Society.
