Sara C. Stewart

Sara C. Stewart, of Oxford, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014. Mrs. Stewart was born in Randolph County, September 13, 1923, the daughter of Grady and Nancy Holmes Carter. At an early age she began work in Marietta, Georgia at the Bell Bomber Facility. And there, during World War II she helped build the B-29 bomber. She spent most of her life in Anniston where her final work was in the lunchroom of Anniston High School. She loved meeting people and was always uplifting and an encouragement to those around her. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anniston at McClellan. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Collins of Atlanta, Georgia; one grandson, Jason Collins; her brother, Joe T. Carter, Sr. of Birmingham; one sister, Mary Nell Cofield of Newell, nieces; Peggy (Wilson) Smith of Wedowee, Nancy (Cofield) Simpson of New Site, Nan (Carter) Bronnenberg of Dallas, Texas and nephews; Tommy Cofield, of Newell and Joe Carter, Jr. of Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carnis Stewart; her brother, Ernest Holmes Carter, and her sister, Erma Jean Wilson.Visitation was Thursday, February 6, at 10 a.m., Gray Brown-Dignity Service, Wilmer Avenue.
