John was a simple man in the best way—he didn’t need much to be happy. He was kind, giving, and always willing to help anyone who needed him. John had a playful spirit and easily made friends with people from all walks of life. He loved staying busy, working as a machinist throughout his career, working on cars, and tinkering with things others might overlook. Where some saw junk, John saw treasures. He especially loved AC/DC, his family pets, and most of all, his proudest accomplishments: his son, Tony, and his granddaughter, Nova. John’s young-hearted spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his son, Anthony “Tony” (Bobbi) Shroyer; granddaughter, Nova Shroyer; siblings, Frank (Tonya) Schoemaker of Richmond, IN, Kevin (Tony) Jennings, Teresa (Dan) Turner of Eaton, OH, and Sue (Larry) Goffinet of Alexandria, IN. He is also survived by many extended family members, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by father & stepmother, John W. & Diane Shroyer; mother, Dorris V. Bouley; siblings, Debra, Lee, Martin, Peggy, Sue Shroyer, Shawn Shroyer, Fritz Schoemaker.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home (552 East River Road, Anoka, MN 55303), on Friday, May 8th, 2026, with a visitation at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 pm.
