Bertha Janet (Jan) Fry, 88, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, February 25, 2019 at her home in Apopka, Florida. Jan was born on March 22, 1930 in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Frances Elizabeth Jokerst and John Baptiste Campbell.
As a young woman ahead of her time, she lived in Miami and Los Angeles working as a secretary and modeling for the renowned Australian artist Henry Clive. Janet graced covers of the New York Weekly magazine and numerous movie posters. Jan was a dedicated mother and wife of an Air Force Colonel living and traveling around the world, her children being born in France and Turkey. She was loving, patient and always went out of her way to make holidays special.
Jan enjoyed painting, sewing, playing bridge, volunteering, and participating in social clubs. Jan had a delightful sense of humor, a zest for life. She was always there for her family and friends who will remember her beautiful smile, quick wit and caring nature.
Jan was one of eleven children; preceded in death by: Raymond, Rosemary, Floyd, Mary, Edna, Agnes, Jules, Samuel and Eugene. She is survived by Rosalie. Beloved wife of Col. Delos H. Fry; dearest mother of Kim Cole, Karen van Gogh and Sue Sorensen; proud grandmother of Krista Jackson, Shane Thompson, Kelley Cole, Shannon Thompson and Michael Sorensen; great-grandmother of Olivia Thompson and Theodore Jackson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 11, 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit (407-886-1740) 601 South Highland Avenue in Apopka, Florida with interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 2:00 PM. Janet Fry will be laid to rest alongside her husband Delos. Arrangements by Baldwin Fairchild funeral home, Apopka, Florida.
