William F. Briney, 97 of Leesburg, FL passed away on February 14, 2018. He was born on April 7, 1920 in Butte, Montana. He was one of the “Greatest Generation”, serving his country in the 10th Mountain Division as a combat skiing rifleman. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service during action in Italy and Yugoslavia during World War II.
After military service, he completed his education and graduated from the University of Montana. He went on to hold a series of management and executive positions in the mining, electronics and aerospace industries. During his tenure at Ryan Aeronautical Company, he was part of a team effort in the research and development of unmanned aerial systems, working closely with the US Government on this and other classified projects. In 2016, he was presented a certificate of appreciation and commendation from the Major General of the US Army Aviation and Missile Command, citing his military service and his civilian contributions to unmanned rocket technology.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis McQuaid Briney and his brother, Frank E. Briney. He is survived by 2 nephews and his cherished step family which includes his daughter Wendy Pacek and her husband Denny Libby of Leesburg, FL; his son in law, Andrew T. Reilley Jr., of Quarryville, PA, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many close and loving friends.
A Celebration of William’s Life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Apopka, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in William’s name.
