Paul was born July 23, 1951 in Albany, Oregon to parents Jerry and Ora Lea Hooker. He moved to and was raised in McKinleyville, California where he met his lifelong friend and wife of 40 years: Dona Jean. After living in Scottsdale Arizona, Paul and Dona returned to Arcata where Paul studied at Humboldt State University while working at Louisiana Pacific and Pacific Clears and playing handball with his buddies Lou Tirado, Tom Oliphant, Tom Marquette, and Larry Carstead. After 13 years the university finally kicked him out with a degree in Natural Resources Planning and Interpretation.
In 1992 Paul partnered with his wife in her business D.J.'s Yard service; he thought he would get more fishing time in! Paul loved to fish; he frequently described Tish Tang as the most beautiful spot on Earth. He was beloved by his community for, among many things, donating his time to his son's school programs.
Paul had a kind heart and an adventurous spirit; he had the ability to see humor everywhere.
Paul is survived by family and friends: Mother-in-law Dorothy Giannini, Chuck and Barbara Giannini, their children Julie Anne Giannini-Previde, Scott Read Giannini, Natalie Renee Giannini, Rebecca Whittington, as well as many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his Parents Jerry and Ora Lea Hooker, his Brother-in-law Robert Giannini, and his favorite Father-in-law Dino Giannini. He was so much more than these words. He will be missed.
Close friends and family are invited to celebrate his life 2-5 PM Saturday January 28 at Dorothy Giannini's house at 1265 P St. Dress is Paul causal.
