Wanda Lou Vickers passed away peacefully on October 15, 2011. She will be missed by all the lives she touched. A wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, it has been a great loss for our family and community.
Wanda reluctantly left behind her husband Glenn of 45 years, along with her two daughters, Debbie and Cindy, grandsons David and Troy, and great-grandson Reed. Wanda also leaves behind her siblings Allen (Pee Wee), Charles, Lillian, Mary and Wilma, along with countless nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her grandson Bud (wonder twin), brother James, and her best friend Cheryl.
But, Wanda didn’t just leave behind family. She began as mother to all the kids of Samoa and continued caring for children for more than 14 years in her daycare. To know her was to feel love, because she generously gave it to everyone she met. She was the master of forgiveness and exhibited a strength that is hard to match. Although she was taken way too soon, we are all grateful she is no longer suffering.
As the wife of a long-time member of the Roadmasters band, she tirelessly gave her time and energy, raising money for charities such as the American Cancer Society and Holly’s Angels. The Roadmasters were a large part of her life and the
Roadmasters family has suffered a great loss.
She enjoyed bowling on the Roadmasters bowling team and spending time with her family in Willow Creek. But, her real passion was children. I know wherever her spirit is, she has already begun caring for the souls of children, who also left us too soon.
Our home was always filled with laughter, music, and love and all were welcome. Because of our mom, we are surrounded by friends, who are more like family and family who are forever our friends. We are grateful to have had her as our mom. We owe her a debt that we can never repay, but can at least try by living our lives as she lived hers, always giving love freely and helping anyone in need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday at 1:00pm, October 30, 2011 at the Manila Community Center, 1611 Peninsula Drive, Manila, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements under the direction of Paul's Chapel, Arcata, CA.
