Algirdas A. “Al” Underys, 65 of Arlington Heights was born December 15, 1955 in Chicago to Bronius and Aldona (Pemkus) Underys and passed away November 24, 2021. Al graduated from IIT in 1978 and had a prolific engineering career spanning 42 years at Finkl Steel, being awarded with 20 United States patents and over 100 international patents. He was also the inaugural recipient of the Forging Industry Association of America’s Lifetime Achievement award.
Al was the beloved husband of Janemarie (nee Abbs) Underys; loving father of Lauren (Gregory) Orf, Lucas (Kate) Underys and Andrew Underys; cherished grandfather of Benjamin, William and Claire; dear brother of Laima (Tomas) Petroliunas, Vitas (Taura) Underys and the late Ramunas (Laima) Underys; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; devoted son-in-law of John and the late Julie Abbs and brother-in-law of Joellen (John) Beranek, John S. (Kim) Abbs, Jennifer Abbs, Jeremy (Andrea) Abbs and Jilanne (Bob) McLoraine. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
