Of Buffalo Grove
Anita DeBartolo (nee Iacobellis) 93, of Buffalo Grove, died Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at her home. Anita was the beloved “wifey” of the late Edward DeBartolo, Sr., a loving mother to Lin (Charlie) Picardi, Peter (Candy) DeBartolo, Louie DeBartolo, Ed (Cheryl) DeBartolo, Jr.; a cherished and devoted Nana to Michael (Sophia) Rogalevich, Gina (Jon A.) Arbay, Ashley (Eric) Johnson, Becca (Jake) Oakes, Taylor DeBartolo and Tiffany (Connor) Henry; proud and loving Nana to her precious great grandchildren, Devan, Lexi, Mikey, Gabriella, Dean and Ashlyn.
Fond sister of Stella (late Angelo) Faruzzi, Rosemary (late Vito) Faruzzi, late Susan (late Robert) Redmond, late Theresa Sansalone; late Ann (Dan) Casella, she was a dear sister-in-law, loving aunt and fond friend to many, always with a smile on her face.
Anita was born June 14th, 1927 to Italian immigrant parents the late Luigi and Angelina Iacobelli and proud of her heritage. Growing up in the Taylor St neighborhood Anita met Ed and their love story began. After marrying they settled in the Grand and Western neighborhood for many years and then the big move to the suburb of Buffalo Grove. Anita was a devout Catholic and immediately joined the St. Mary parish in Buffalo Grove.
Anita not only was an excellent baker (she loved her sweets) but renowned for her homemade pizza, gnocchi, and ravioli, all made from scratch, that she would drop everything to make, at the asking of her family. Anita was an avid reader often reading into the wee hours to finish a book. She loved listening to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and especially Elvis. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo with family and friends. Anita was a passionate fan for all Chicago sport teams, but nothing matched her love for the Cubs.
Although Anita never learned to drive, that did not get in the way for any opportunity to socialize especially at the Buffalo Grove senior center a couple of days per week up until her stroke. In her 80’s, Anita tackled her bucket list with family assistance. She traveled to Hawaii, visited the Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls in Canada, and her most memorable trip to Italy. In her 90’s, Anita was still traveling independently by air to California and Arizona to visit her family.
Anita only saw the good in everyone and was true to her mantra to treat others as you would like to be treated. Anita’s easy smile, kindness, passion for her family and her love of life will remain a lasting legacy.
