Arlene Jeanne Kieffer, 93, was born March 12, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Lydia (nee Bauman) Ernst. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday July 4, 2024 at Sunrise Senior Living of Prospect Heights.
Arlene was a dedicated and loving homemaker, who enjoyed gardening and baking. All loved her banana bread and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. Every month, she met with her lifelong club ladies to play poker, as well as her Bunco ladies to play Bunco - something she always looked forward to.
Arlene worked part-time as a professional caregiver and her care receivers’ families were so grateful for her compassion and kindness. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church where she volunteered with the Stephan Ministry.
She will be remembered for many things. Her love of family and being her grandchildren's biggest cheerleader at their sporting events. She was the best babysitter as one overnight would turn into three because the grandchildren never wanted to leave, with each fighting over who was next for one of her famous back scratches. Despite her tiny stature, she could scoop a mean bowl of ice cream frozen like a polar ice cap. She also loved milk (“but just a little cup”). Mostly, she was a mom you could count on to always be in your corner.
Arlene is survived by her children, Kurt (Joan) Kieffer, Lynn Reeves, Pam (John) Moran, and Scott (Jennifer) Kieffer; her grandchildren, Renee (Todd) McGrath, Kendall Kieffer , Morgan (Greg) Schwab, Justin Moran, Cailey (Daniel) Walsh, Taylor Reeves, Alyssa Kieffer, Lucas Moran, and Samantha (Greg) Lajiness; and her great grandchildren, Emerson, Brayden, Kolton, Harper, Jackson, Drake, Kane and Cole; along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George; her son, Jeffrey Kieffer; her parents, and her sisters, Carol Till and Jackie Dietz.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 1624 E. Euclid Ave, Mount Prospect, Illinois. Rev. Daniel Schwick will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Chicago (http://www.alz.org/illinois/).
