Candida Serino

Candida was born in Mola di Bari, Italy on September 20, 1929, to parents Carlantonio and Loreta (nee Circolone) Pesce. She was the oldest of eight siblings. She married Giuliano Serino on November 24, 1956, in Pompeii, Italy. They moved to Chicago with their three children in 1972, and later settled in Palatine. She worked at Brach’s Candy Factory as a chocolate packer and brought many sweet treats home for her family. Her main purpose in life was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also adored by her many nieces and nephews. She loved cooking and baking, and no one left her house empty handed or with an empty stomach. There was always an abundance of Taralli and Savoiardi. For many years she belonged to The Maria Santissima Addolorata Club of Mola di Bari. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Mariella (Pasquale) Berardi, Nicola (Sherry) Serino, Carla (Joe) Zivoli, her grandchildren, Annamaria (Paul) Knych, Giovanni (Kayleen) Berardi, Jon (fiancé Allison Fortuna) Zivoli, and Maria (Billy) Schaefer, her great-grandchildren, Gianpaul, Natalia, Juliette, and Noelle, her siblings, Francesca (the late Vito) Calefato, Maria (Giuseppe) Susca, Stefano (Chiara) Pesce, Dina (the late Nicola) Deluso, and Domenico (Giovanna) Pesce, her brother-in-law, Stefano (the late Anna) Russo, and her sister-in-law, Maria (the late Emilio) Pesce, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Giuliano Serino, and her siblings, Anna (Stefano) Russo, and Emilio (Maria) Pesce.

The Funeral Mass will be Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. with a visitation the hour prior, all at St. James Catholic Church, 820 N Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.

Entombment to follow Mass at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
