Carole Ann Foley passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Wheeling, Illinois. She was born on November 30, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois to Dominic and Ann Balis.
Carole, with her big and bottomless heart, generously gave so much of herself. As a well-loved and respected teacher, she knew Math, so well that for more than 30 years, she helped students understand the logic, the language of numbers at St. Viator High School. As an adventure-seeking traveler, she sought out places far beyond the classroom: she hiked across rice terraces in the Philippines, boarded a speed boat to a seal-populated island in Scotland, explored Tanzania by way of a safari. As a family-centered mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and best friend, she believed that all roads led back to Illinois: at home, she found ways to show and share with us a simple happiness. She’d offer a glass of her legendary cosmos martini or a cheese-dripping slice of Lou Malnati’s. She’d hand out each one of her many thoughtfully wrapped Christmas presents. She’d plan the most fun trips (to Great America, to Chicago, to Florida) or stay and sit at the table or in the living room, to do what she truly enjoyed: passing her fully lived days with those she deeply cared for. We will miss her tremendously, and love her “morether than more”.
She is survived by her children Cristin (Brad) Nestor, Eric (Sandy) Foley and Brian (Maggie) Foley, her grandchildren Emma and Owen Nestor and Stella and Shane Foley; her brother Rick Balis and her best friend Sharon Jackson.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Thomas and Robert Balis.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am until time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00am on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at St. Viator Highschool Chapel 1213 E. Oakton St. Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.
