Catherine Corinne Jordan, age 95, formerly of Roselle, IL, was born February 10, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Peter and Katherine (nee Sharkey) Curley and passed away May 30, 2020 at Presence Nazarethville in Des Plaines, IL, where she had been receiving outstanding, compassionate care since early 2018. Corinne (as she was known) was married to James V. Jordan, Sr. from 1947 until his passing in 1976. She was the dear sister of the late John Curley and Geraldine Hanrahan and the beloved mother-in-law of the late Ellie Jordan. Corinne is survived by her loving children James V. (Sandra) Jordan, Jr., Dennis M. Jordan, Kevin P. (Camille Gontarek) Jordan, Donna M. (Joseph) LaNasa, Terence A. (Susan) Jordan and Timothy P. (Cynthia) Jordan. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, all of whom were precious to her. Finally, Corinne was a beloved aunt to the children of her late brother and sister as well as the children of her late cousin, Adele Boyle.
Corinne earned her nursing degree in 1946 from Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ and she began her nursing career there after graduation. After she and James relocated their family to Allenhurst, NJ in 1958, she worked at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. In 1967, the family moved to Arlington Heights, IL. Corinne then focused her career on industrial nursing, working at the O’Hare Industrial Clinic in Elk Grove Village, IL and then at Northrop Grumman, in Rolling Meadows, IL, until her final retirement in 1995. As the head nurse at the O’Hare Industrial Clinic, other staff looked up to Corinne for her excellent nursing skills in caring for patients injured on the job. She always treated patients and staff with respect and kindness.
After her retirement, Corinne completely immersed herself in being a grandmother. Some of her grandchildren lived nearby, but she often traveled to California, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania to see the others. She also had memorable visits with her grandchildren in Seville, Spain and Paris, France. Corinne provided compassionate care to her beloved sister-in-law Marilyn Jordan over the last year of her life (2011-2012) as Marilyn was being treated for lung cancer. Even well before her retirement, Corinne was always very generous with her love and time with her children, their spouses, and their children. This immersion in family continued until her passing. Regardless of where she lived over the past several years, Corinne had a constant stream of family members and friends visiting and spending time with her and with each other.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Presence Nazarethville. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Presence Nazarethville, ATTN: Sister Maryann McKeogh, 300 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016. These funds will be used for music therapy programs and new beds for the residents.
