Talented and beloved hairdresser Catherine Louise "Cathie" Volz passed away on July 16, 2021, at the age of 55, after a courageous four-year battle with ovarian cancer. She maintained her tough, uncompromising spirit and good humor until the last days of her life, when she finally gave up the fight while surrounded by her loved ones.

Cathie spent the entirety of her 30-year career as a hairdresser with Hair With Us, in downtown Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was loved by her clients and respected by her colleagues for her skill with scissors, empathetic ear and clever wit. In a business where professionals routinely switch shops to put a few more dollars in their pocket, Cathie remained loyal to Hair With Us from the first day of her career to her last.

Outside of work, Cathie loved to garden, cook and eat German food and spoil her nephews and nieces, much to the chagrin of their parents.

Cathie is survived by her father, Carl Wilhelm Volz, her big sister, Carolyn Burke, her little brother, Carl Edward Volz, her much loved nieces and nephews, her long-time significant other, James Quillin, and her cherished fur babies, dogs Lola and Eddy and cats Sam and Buffy.

In accordance with her oft-stated wishes, no formal viewing or funeral service will be held for Cathie. Instead, family and friends will hold a party within the next few months to celebrate her life and legacy. Details will follow here and on Facebook.
