Hi, I’m a former colleague of David. I didn’t know him well, but I had a lot of respect for him. I want to extend my sincerest sympathies, especially since I lost my dad to a GBM not long ago. My heart goes out to you all, and I wish you moments of peace and comfort in this difficult time.

Dear Kathy, Tanner, Hope, Emma, Brooklynn, and Family,
As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary community. Our hearts go out to you as you move forward on your journey of grief. We pray for you as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate your husband, your father, and the love you shared.
As I read the Daily Herald article and the obituary for this outstanding coach/teacher who "loved being a husband and father more,"…and whose "ultimate joy" was being with family, I was reminded of a reading adapted from the Book of Sirach.
“Let us praise an illustrious man,
faithful to his family and friends, strong in his love.
At peace in his heart and his world,
he has left us his good name, and we recount his life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous man his good works will never be forgotten.
Among his family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of him….
His name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing his praises.
We proclaim his wisdom and love of life all our days.”
May God’s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
May the knowledge that your husband, your father, lives on in your goodness, give you peace and hope!

I grew up with the Yates family attending St Thomas and St Ed’s with Billy and Dave. Great family!
It was fun to reconnect with Dave raising our families in Palatine/AH and ultimately seeing him at varsity games doing what he does best—being an incredible leader and driving a winning culture. You’ll leave a gap in the community! God bless! #greenwave

I was younger than Dave, but was always treated well by Dave and liked him.

My thoughts are with Kathy, the kids, Dave's mom and the Fremd community.
Dave was a huge advocate of mine and I'm thankful for the relationship we shared. Dave had an incredible basketball mind and cared about his players beyond the basketball floor. His legacy lives on through players, coaches and events that he organized. The game of basketball is better because of Dave.
