Born on July 16, 1938, Diane graduated from Marquette University. She worked as a teacher for several years before having children—an early role that reflected her lasting belief in the importance of education.
Diane was devoted to her family and her faith. She was a selfless caregiver, particularly to her late husband, Richard “Dick” Fox, whom she shared her life with for over 60 years.
Diane was predeceased by her husband, her parents Elaine and Wesley, and her siblings Doug Peterson, Susan Hutt, and David Peterson. She is survived by her children Doug (Grace), Greg (Patty), and Jeff (Kristen), as well as her siblings Gary Peterson and Kathy Kowalczyk. Diane, affectionately known as Amma, is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Diane was immensely proud of her family. She spoke often about the places they studied, worked, and built their lives. She never passed up the chance for a long chat. The legacy she leaves behind is a simple one: love for family, pride in their journeys, and the example of showing up for the people you care about. Her family will carry that forward, just as she did.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday January 10th, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's of the Lake, 4220 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60613. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am.
