Eugene P. Holland, 84, formerly of Arlington Heights, went to be with his Lord peacefully on December 26, 2019, at his home in Chicago Il. Gene was born April 3, 1935, in Niagara Falls, New York.

His legacy lives through his family and numerous accomplishments.
Upon receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Valparaiso University in 1956, Gene went on to become an accomplished structural engineer in Chicago as well as 16 additional states. He has worked for numerous highly recognized law firms on very high-profile legal cases. Starting in 1981 to present he is the founder and President of Eugene Holland and Associates Ltd, an Architectural/Engineering design firm, contractors, manufacturers, insurance companies and attorney services. He was the president and CEO of Coder Taylor Associates Inc. He was Co-founder and President of Wiesinger Holland LTD. He also ran a private Consulting Engineering Firm. Worked as an Engineer for the Advanced Engineering Group of Portland Cement Association.
Gene will be remembered for his enthusiasm he showed towards his many hobbies from reading, enjoying fine wine and art, as well as sailing the waters of his beloved lake Michigan. He relished competing in sailing competitions such as the Mackinac races, the Southern Ocean racing conference, and Key West Race Week off the coast of Florida. Gene had numerous professional affiliations, did research, computer solutions, taught at Valparaiso University, the University of Illinois and at many seminars. He was involved in many civic duties including Chicago Mayor’s Advisory to rewrite the City of Chicago’s building code. He wrote many publications in his field including a book “Housing” 2nd edition published in 1981. Gene was a beloved patron of Goodman Theatre.
Gene is survived by his sisters Judy Sarazen of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Beverly DuBois of Windom, Texas. He was the dear father of Christine (Robert Halberg) Compton, Kelly (Jeff) Thut, and John (Renee) Holland, born from his late marriage to Joan Kathleen Holland
Seevers. Also, the dear father of Kiah Westendorp-Holland and Britton Westendorp-Holland born from his late marriage to Jayne Westendorp- Holland. He was the dear grandfather to Matthew (Sara) Compton, Andrew (Jackie) Thut, Ryan (Meredith) Thut, Lauren (Matt) Stummer, Lindsey Thut, Tyler Thut, Alex (Mike) Stevens and Erin Holland. He was the dear great-grandpa to Addison, Taylor and Sayge Compton, Juliette Thut, Naomi Stummer, and Holland Stevens. Also survived by his administrative assistant Tammy Joyce and special friend Ida Butkus.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bessie and Edgar Holland; his brother Bob Holland; and his grandson Brandon Compton.
Memorial visitation from 4:00 until 8:00 pm, Friday, January 3rd, 2020, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 4th, 2020, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive Street, Arlington Heights, Illinois.
