Hanna was born April 19, 1929 in Boonville, Mo. to Winona and William Schwitzky. She graduated from Jefferson City (Mo.) High School, before attending University of Missouri to earn a degree in Education.
Her teaching career began in Clarinda, Ia., where she met Donald O. Lord. A stop in Jacksonville followed before Hanna settled in Arlington Heights when she accepted a position as Physical Education teacher at Arlington Heights High School.
Turns out, Hanna had another calling. From Northern Illinois University she was awarded a Master’s degree in Education and from Syracuse University a Certificate of Advanced Study in Special Education. Until her retirement in 1984, Hanna taught students with special needs at Elk Grove High School.
Forty-five years after their first date, Hanna married Don Lord on September 16, 1995 in Park Ridge. Following Don’s death in 2016, Hanna joined and became active in St. Simon’s Episcopal Church.
Together, Hanna and Don enjoyed music, arts and world travel.
Hanna is preceded in death by her parents and husband, sister Frances Grace and brother Edwin Schwitzky.
Survivors include a nephew, Edwin Schwitzky II and his wife Michele of Tucson, Az., great nephew Zachary Schwitzky of New York, NY., and great niece Jenna Schwitzky Hadavi, plus a great-great niece Kolbe Hadavi and great-great nephew Dresden Hadavi, all of Encino, Ca.
The family of Hanna Schwitzky Lord extends its sincerest appreciation to her dear friend Mary Ellen Murphy, the many compassionate professionals at JourneyCare Hospice of Arlington Heights, and Interim Rector Bryan Cones of St. Simons Episcopal Church for his intervention and spiritual guidance.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no visitation.
Again, due to restrictions imposed by COVID-19, a limited services funeral will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Interment Memory Gardens Cemetery. Interim Rector Bryan Cones of St. Simon’s Episcopal Church will officiate.
