Jane Marie Smith

Jane Marie Smith, 94, of Arlington Heights, formerly Glencoe and Chicago, devoted daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie (nee Harrison); dear friend of Carole Rita Nolan; Sister of Ray; Aunt of Christopher and Leslie; loving Great Aunt of Emily, Max, Ian and Sasha passed away peacefully in her sleep November 20, 2021, one day before her 95th birthday. Jane became an accomplished educator in the classroom and as an administrator after graduating from Northwestern University in 1948. In her professional life she is known for her accomplishments as a developer of Chicago’s Head Start, a child development program designed to provide preschool children of low-income families with support to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs. Jane was surrounded by loved ones her entire life. In her 90s she had a full calendar with daily social events and was a joy to be around. Jane will always be remembered for her sharp mind, kind heart, quick wit and the passion for life that led her to every corner of the world. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is forever in our hearts. Visitation Tuesday December 7, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N.
