Janet I. Collins, 86, of Rosemont, was born November 7, 1934 to Walter and Elizabeth (Bartsch) Klement and passed away on December 10, 2020. Janet was the loving mother of Kathleen (Jon) Kirk, Patrice (Paul) Maslajczuk, and Robert (Heather) Collins; cherished grandmother of Ryan, Cory, Kevin, Hazel, Mabel and Emmett; dear sister of the late Eleanor Olsen and Walter Klement; loving companion of the late Jack Geary; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews and survived by many dear friends.
Jan will be remembered as generous woman who cared deeply for her family and friends.
She grew up in Chicago on Waveland Avenue and later on Eddy Street where she built many lifelong friendships including her first husband, Bob, and companion, Jack. In 1963, she moved to Rosemont and lived there for over 53 years.
Jan began working as a telephone operator and later worked as a catering waitress at a local banquet hall. Her time working at a local clothing store allowed her to put her amazing fashion sense to good use. She ended her working career as a salesperson for the Donald E Stephens Convention Center, where she loved helping people plan their special events.
A very creative person, Jan enjoyed decorating cakes for special occasions, as well as creating beautiful flower arrangements. One of her many passions was home decorating, and her home always reflected her sense of style and taste.
Jan loved to travel and enjoyed numerous trips in the U.S. and other countries with her companion, Jack. From cruises, to basking in the sun in Mexico, to riding a camel in Egypt, she cherished every one of their trips together.
Family was the most important thing to Jan, and she spent time with them often. She treasured her time with her grandchildren and loved to dote on them. Throughout her years with her companion Jack, she loved spending time with the Geary family, as well.
After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Jan passed away peacefully. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Belmont Village of Buffalo Grove and Suncrest Hospice for their care and support during the final years of Jan’s life.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services will be private. We hope to hold a celebration of her life at a later date. Contributions in Jan's memory are welcome to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
