Jo Ellen Dobrow

Jo Ellen Dobrow, 61, of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away surrounded by her family on July 25, 2025, after fighting breast cancer until the very end. She was born February 24, 1964, the beloved daughter of Mary Ellen and Donald Szontagh.

Over the years, Jo Ellen worked as a seamstress, with dedicated creativity in every stitch and seam. Recognizing the value of service and community, she served as Junior Advisor and Sergeant at Arms for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 208 for many years. Jo Ellen also enjoyed crocheting, spending time outside in the sunshine by her pool, and she recently discovered a love of traveling to new tropical destinations. She was loved by countless people and never met a stranger wherever she went. Most of all -- she cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren and being their Mimi.

Jo Ellen is survived by her loving husband of nearly 43 years, Scott Dobrow. She was the cherished mother to LorEllen (Aaron) McCoy, Autumn (Andrew) Perrault, Theresa (Jason) Abrahams, JR (Craig Claussen) Dobrow, and Tiffany (Michael Weidner) Dobrow, and selfless Mimi to Aavin and Caysen; Blake, Brielle, Cadence, and Claire; Ryker, Kamden, Daxton, and Mckinsley; and Cain, ReyEllen, and Ezekiel. She was a dedicated sister to Loran (James) Koop, an adoring aunt to Samantha, Michael, and Ally, and great aunt to Gia, Mason, and Lucca.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen and Donald Szontagh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations under Jo Ellen’s name may be made out to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 208, 121 North Douglas Avenue, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004.

The family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 3:30 PM until 7:30 PM with a memorial speech at 6:30 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment Private. A celebration of life will be planned for later this year.
